메두사 동굴(The Cave of Medusa)

Irene, Jinnie, and Posil walked deeper into the dark cave. The walls were cold and damp, and everywhere they looked, there were stone statues shaped like people. Jinnie shivered and whispered, “Sister, these statues… they look too real. Almost like actual people.”

As they moved further inside, they suddenly found a boy lying on the ground, badly hurt. Irene and Jinnie rushed to him. With her healing magic, Jinnie gently mended his wounds until the boy could finally speak. Weakly, he told them about the monster of the cave—Medusa.

“She looks like a beautiful woman,” the boy explained, trembling. “But her hair is made of snakes, and if your eyes meet hers… you turn into stone. The statues you’ve seen are not statues at all—they are villagers who fell under her curse. I barely escaped, but I was blinded for a moment and fell, injuring myself.”

Irene clenched her fists. She told the boy to leave the cave immediately and find safety. Then, with determination burning in her eyes, she declared, “We’ll defeat Medusa and free the villagers.”

At the end of the cave, they finally met the monster. Medusa emerged from the shadows, her snake-hair writhing and hissing. She let out a chilling laugh, and suddenly the snakes extended, striking like whips. Irene blocked with her golden sword, while Jinnie and Posil dodged. But in a sudden twist of fate, Jinnie and Posil met Medusa’s terrible gaze—instantly turning to stone before Irene’s eyes.

Irene’s heart sank, but she did not falter. She closed her eyes tightly, refusing to look at Medusa. Instead, she focused on the sounds—the slithering of the snakes, the scrape of Medusa’s feet across the rocky ground. Listening carefully, she shifted and moved with every sound.

When she heard Medusa’s footsteps rushing toward her, Irene swung her golden sword. The blade gleamed like a mirror, reflecting Medusa’s deadly gaze back at her. The monster shrieked in terror as her own curse turned upon her. Within moments, Medusa’s body hardened, until she too became a lifeless statue.

Then, something miraculous happened. The stone statues in the cave—Jinnie, Posil, and all the villagers—began to return to life. Jinnie gasped as she took her first breath again, and Posil barked joyfully, wagging his tail. The villagers wept with relief and gratitude.

Irene held her golden sword high, its light shining across the cave. She had not only defeated Medusa, but also restored hope to the people. Together, Irene, Jinnie, and Posil knew their journey against the dark sorcerer was far from over—but with their courage, loyalty, and friendship, no curse could stop them.

소년은 헐떡이며 그들에게 메두사 괴물에 대해 설명했어. “그건… 메두사예요. 겉모습은 아름다운 여인 같지만, 가까이서 보면 머리카락이 전부 살아 있는 뱀이에요. 그리고… 눈이 마주치는 순간 돌로 변해버려요. 이 석상들은 모두 마을 사람들이에요…” 소년은 눈을 피하며 달아나다 크게 다쳐 쓰러졌던 거였지.

아이린은 단호하게 소년을 일으켜 세웠어. “어서 마을로 돌아가. 여긴 우리가 처리할게.”

마침내 동굴 끝에 도달했을 때, 그들은 메두사와 마주쳤어. 달빛처럼 창백한 피부, 아름다운 미소를 띤 얼굴. 그러나 머리 위에 꿈틀대는 뱀들이 몸을 스르르 감고 오르내리는 끔찍한 광경은 모두를 얼어붙게 만들었지. 뱀들은 길어졌다가 짧아지며 휘둘러 공격했고, 아이린과 지니, 포실은 가까스로 몸을 피했어.

하지만 불행히도, 지니와 포실은 잠깐의 방심으로 메두사와 눈이 마주치고 말았어. 그 순간, 둘은 점점 돌로 굳어가기 시작했지. 아이린은 절망했지만, 포기하지 않았어. 그녀는 눈을 감고 귀를 곤두세웠지. 메두사의 발걸음, 뱀의 쉭쉭거리는 소리, 날아드는 바람의 흐름… 모든 소리를 하나로 묶어 머릿속에 그림을 그렸어.

“여기다!” 아이린은 황금검을 높이 치켜들었어. 황금검은 거울처럼 빛을 반사했고, 순간 메두사의 시선이 그 빛에 부딪혔지. 자신도 모르게 자기 눈빛을 마주한 메두사는 끔찍한 비명을 지르며 서서히 돌로 변해버렸어. 뱀 머리들이 돌처럼 굳어가고, 마침내 그녀는 동굴 한가운데 거대한 석상으로 변해 사라지고 말았어.

그와 동시에 지니와 포실, 그리고 동굴 안의 수많은 석상들이 서서히 원래 모습으로 돌아오기 시작했어. 놀라움과 기쁨이 교차하는 순간, 마을 사람들은 서로를 끌어안으며 눈물을 흘렸지.

아이린은 황금검을 단단히 움켜쥔 채 속으로 다짐했어. “이 검은 단순한 무기가 아니야. 믿음과 용기가 있으면 어떤 어둠도 이겨낼 수 있다는 증거야.”
