황금검(The Golden Sword)

Irene, Jinnie, and Poshil had finally left the dark forest behind when a giant turtle appeared before them on the path. Startled, they stopped in their tracks, worried that it might be another monster. But the turtle spoke first.
“Little swordswoman, young magician, and silver wolf… at last, I have found you.”

Not only could the turtle talk, but it also seemed to know exactly who they were. Irene and Jinnie exchanged surprised glances. The turtle continued, “I was once a great general who protected the village, but I fell in battle against the dark sorcerer. His curse transformed me into this body. My strength is gone, yet hope still remains.”

The turtle then asked them to follow. Jinnie frowned and whispered, “We shouldn’t trust him. What if this is another trick?” But Irene thought for a moment and replied, “Let’s believe him this time.” With that, the turtle led them down to the riverside. “Wait here,” it said, before slipping into the water and vanishing beneath the surface.

Time passed. The sun began to dip lower. Jinnie grew impatient. “See? He tricked us! I knew it!” she exclaimed. But Irene stayed calm. “No… I think we should wait a little longer.” Poshil wagged his tail and sat beside her, his shining silver eyes full of quiet trust.

At last, as evening fell, the water rippled and the turtle rose again. On its back was something glowing—so bright it caught everyone’s breath. It was a great sword, shimmering with golden light. The turtle gently placed it before Irene.
“This,” it said, “is the Golden Sword I once wielded as a general. It holds the power to banish darkness and summon light. Use it to defeat the sorcerer and save the village. Thank you for believing in me.”

Irene’s hands trembled as she grasped the sword. She remembered the despair she had felt when her old blade had shattered against the black tigers. But now, holding the Golden Sword, her heart filled with courage once more.
“I promise,” she whispered, “with this sword, I will protect everyone and defeat the sorcerer.”

Jinnie stepped closer, nodding firmly. “Yes. This time, we’ll win. With the three of us together, nothing can stand in our way.” Poshil let out a deep, proud howl, his silver eyes blazing.

The turtle general smiled warmly, watching the three friends glow with newfound resolve. Slowly, it sank back into the river’s depths, leaving behind the soft ripples of water under the evening sky. And so, with the Golden Sword in hand, Irene and her companions continued their journey, their spirits stronger than ever before.

아이린, 지니, 그리고 포실은 깊은 산속을 벗어나 길을 걷고 있었어. 그러다 눈앞에 커다란 거북이가 나타났지. 세 친구는 순간 놀라며, 혹시 괴물일지도 모른다고 경계했어. 그런데 거북이가 먼저 입을 열었어.
“소녀 검사, 마법 소녀, 은빛 늑대여. 드디어 만나게 되었군요.”

거북이가 말을 할 뿐만 아니라, 세 친구의 정체까지 알고 있는 것이었어. 아이린과 지니는 깜짝 놀랐어. 거북이는 자신이 원래 마을을 지키던 장군이었는데, 나쁜 마법사에게 패배하여 지금의 모습이 되었다고 했어. “나는 한때 사람들을 지키던 장군이었소. 하지만 마법사의 저주에 굴복해 지금은 이 모습이 되었지요. 나의 힘은 사라졌지만, 아직 희망은 남아 있습니다.”

거북이는 이들에게 자신을 따라오라고 했지. 지니는 의심스러운 눈빛으로 “저 거북이를 믿을 수 없어”라고 했지만, 아이린은 잠시 고민하다가 “이번엔 믿어보자”라고 말했어. 거북이는 세 친구를 데리고 강가로 향했어. 그리고 “잠시만 기다려요”라며 물속으로 들어가 버렸어.

시간이 한참 흘러도 거북이가 나오지 않자, 지니는 결국 화를 내며 “역시 우리를 속였어!”라고 말했어. 하지만 아이린은 끝까지 기다려 보기로 했지. 포실이도 꼬리를 흔들며 “나는 거북이가 진심이라고 생각해”라는 듯 아이린 옆에 앉아 있었어.

저녁 무렵, 물속에서 다시 나타난 거북이의 등에 무언가가 반짝이고 있었어. 지니는 순간 말을 잃었어. 거북이 등에 황금빛으로 빛나는 커다란 검이 있었기 때문이야. 거북이는 그것을 꺼내 아이린에게 건네며 말했다.
“이것은 내가 장군이었을 때 가장 아끼던 황금검입니다. 이 검은 어둠을 물리치고 빛을 불러오는 힘이 있지요. 나쁜 마법사를 물리칠 때 사용해 주세요. 그리고 나를 믿어주어 고맙습니다. 부디 마을을 구해주길 바랍니다.”

아이린은 지난번 검은 호랑이와 싸울 때 검이 부러져 큰 좌절을 겪었었지. 하지만 거북이 덕분에 다시 강력한 무기를 얻게 되었어. 아이린은 황금검을 손에 쥐고 조용히 다짐했어.
“반드시 이 검으로 마을을 지키고, 나쁜 마법사를 무찌르겠어.”

지니도 옆에서 고개를 끄덕이며 “언니, 이번엔 우리가 꼭 이길 수 있어. 우리 셋이라면 어떤 적도 무섭지 않아”라고 말했어. 포실이는 은빛 눈동자를 반짝이며 힘차게 울부짖었지.

세 친구의 눈빛은 예전보다 한층 더 강해졌어. 거북이 장군은 흐뭇하게 미소 지으며 강물 속으로 서서히 사라졌고, 황혼빛 하늘 아래 세 친구의 모험은 다시 힘차게 이어졌어.
