세 개의 보석(The three jewels)

When the three jewels came together, the emerald, sapphire, and ruby merged into a single radiant light. Green, blue, and red swirled together until a brilliant golden glow filled the castle grounds. That light wrapped around Irene, Jinnie, and Poshil, transforming them in wondrous ways. Irene was clad in shining golden armor, her sword blazing brighter than the sun. Jinnie’s body shimmered with golden accessories that magnified her magic and made her spells stronger than ever before. And Poshil grew into a mighty golden wolf, his fur glowing and his eyes gleaming with fierce but gentle light. The three companions looked at one another and nodded. With this power, nothing could stop them.

At last, they stood before the sorcerer’s castle. It towered endlessly toward the sky, wrapped in black clouds and lightning that struck again and again around its spires. The heavy iron doors were etched with ominous markings, and from within seeped a suffocating darkness. Irene raised her golden sword high and struck the gates. With a thunderous boom, the doors swung open, swallowing the three friends into the castle’s depths.

They had expected to meet the sorcerer at once, but instead they found themselves in a vast tower, each floor a trial. The sorcerer’s chamber lay at the very top, the tenth floor. Every level was said to hide monstrous guardians and deadly traps.

On the first floor, the walls suddenly shifted and locked into place, forming a massive labyrinth. The twisting corridors stretched on without end, and the floor was riddled with dangers. One moment the ground would collapse into endless pits, and the next, burning arrows would shoot from hidden slits in the walls. Irene shielded her friends with her golden armor, Jinnie lit the paths with her magic to reveal the traps, and Poshil darted ahead to test the ground and guide them toward safety.

But at the end of the labyrinth, a towering monster awaited them—a massive stone golem. Its eyes glowed red as it raised its boulder-like fists. Each strike shook the earth, cracks spreading across the floor. Irene braced herself with her sword, but the sheer force sent her staggering backward. Jinnie tried ice and lightning, but the magic barely scratched the creature’s stone body. Poshil leapt and bit at its leg, yet the golem slammed the ground and sent him tumbling aside.

“This won’t work,” Irene muttered, catching her breath. “It can’t be beaten by strength alone. We’ll need to outthink it.”

The three quickly realized the golem’s movements followed a pattern. First its right fist, then its left, and finally a full-body slam that made the floor tremble. Irene whispered her plan. Jinnie began drawing glowing sigils on the floor with her light magic, marking the spots where the golem would strike. Poshil darted and howled, baiting the golem into stepping exactly where the symbols lay.

The monster roared and slammed the ground with its entire weight. In that instant, Jinnie’s runes flared brightly, and the floor beneath the golem gave way. The heavy creature toppled into the pit, its weight pulling it deeper as the ground crumbled. Irene rushed forward and sealed the opening with a sweep of her golden sword, trapping the golem inside. The beast thrashed and clawed at the walls, but soon its body crumbled, collapsing into dust and rubble.

The shifting walls of the labyrinth vanished, revealing a staircase leading upward. The first trial was complete. Irene smiled faintly, her golden armor shining in the dim light. “It wasn’t power that won this fight,” she said softly. “It was wisdom.”

Jinnie and Poshil nodded in agreement. The three stood side by side, stronger in courage and trust, as they stepped toward the second floor of the sorcerer’s tower.

첫 번째 층에 들어서자 사방의 벽이 움직이며 거대한 미궁이 만들어졌어요. 길은 꼬불꼬불 이어졌고, 바닥은 함정으로 가득했어요. 갑자기 바닥이 꺼지며 끝없는 구덩이가 드러나기도 하고, 벽 틈새에서 불화살이 쏟아져 나오기도 했지요. 아이린은 황금 갑옷으로 화살을 막으며 앞으로 나아갔고, 지니는 빛의 마법으로 어두운 통로를 밝혀 함정을 찾아냈어요. 포실은 민첩하게 뛰며 안전한 길을 찾아냈지요.

그러나 미궁의 마지막에는 거대한 돌 골렘이 길을 막고 있었어요. 골렘은 두 눈에서 붉은 빛을 내뿜으며 우렁찬 발걸음을 내디뎠고, 거대한 주먹을 내리칠 때마다 땅이 울려 퍼졌어요. 아이린은 황금검으로 막아냈지만 충격이 너무 커서 몸이 휘청거렸지요. 지니는 얼음과 번개의 마법을 시도했으나 골렘의 바위 몸은 꿈쩍도 하지 않았어요. 포실은 힘껏 달려들어 골렘의 다리를 물었지만, 골렘은 발을 구르며 포실을 땅바닥으로 밀쳐냈어요.

“이대로는 안 돼.” 아이린이 이를 악물며 말했어요. “힘으로만은 절대 못 이겨. 이건 머리를 써야 해.”

세 친구는 곧 골렘의 움직임이 일정하다는 사실을 눈치챘어요. 오른손을 내리치면 곧 왼손이 이어지고, 마지막에는 몸 전체로 땅을 울리는 패턴이 반복되었지요. 아이린은 지니에게 속삭였어요. “골렘의 발이 떨어지는 자리를 표시해. 포실, 넌 골렘을 그쪽으로 유도해!”

지니는 바닥에 마법진을 그려 표시했고, 포실은 골렘의 앞을 가로막아 그를 표시된 자리로 이끌었어요. 마지막으로 골렘이 거대한 몸으로 땅을 울리려는 순간, 지니의 마법진이 번쩍이며 땅을 무너뜨렸어요. 골렘은 무게를 이기지 못하고 깊은 구덩이에 빠져들었고, 아이린은 황금검을 휘둘러 그 위를 봉인했어요. 골렘은 몸부림치다 결국 돌조각으로 흩어져 사라지고 말았지요.

성의 벽은 서서히 사라지며 출구가 드러났어요. 세 사람은 깊게 숨을 내쉬며 서로를 바라보았어요. “힘이 아니라 지혜로 이길 수 있었어.” 아이린이 말하자, 지니는 미소 지으며 고개를 끄덕였고, 포실은 기쁘게 울부짖었어요. 세 친구는 더욱 단단해진 마음으로 성의 두 번째 층으로 향했어요.
